SC Innovation provided project management and design optimisation support to our sister company (Blackhill Engineering Services Ltd) as they manufactured the pile caps and cross members for the HPC temporary jetty under contract from Costain.

Impact Simulation for Nuclear Containers

In 2016 SC Innovation began to work with Croft Ltd to develop a way of replicating physical crush and drop tests on a container designed to transport radioactive material (Croft Safkeg).
SC Innovation approached the project by conducting a range of dynamic simulation tests, using non-linear material properties. Our engineers built a 3D model of the Safkeg assembly in sufficient detail to allow comparison with physical test evidence and to simulate the container damage when subjected to crush test (Hypothetical Accident Conditions). The analysis demonstrated that simulated tests correlated very closely with physical testing, thus minimising the associated costs and time incurred in qualifying containers.

Hinkley Point C - Water Filtration Component Structural Test

SC innovation carried out structural tests on key water filtration components for Ovivo UK which is supplying the cooling water intake screening system for Hinkley Point C.

The tests were witnessed by representatives from Ovivo UK and they assessed the structural strength of the proposed mesh panels to be used for the Drum Screen.
The tests examined potential deformation by applying pressure cycles to the mesh to determine whether the mesh would withstand service at its maximum design pressure.

SC Innovation provided Project Management and Engineering / DfM support to our sister company (Blackhill Engineering Services Ltd) as they manufactured the pile caps and cross members for the HPC Temporary Jetty on the behalf of Costain.
